New Smocking Plates!

Brer Rabbit has been working very hard all summer, which explains his absence from blogging all summer! He is pleased to announce that there are now FIVE new Smocking Plates fresh out of the Briar Patch from Brer Rabbit Designs!
Flutter-by Butterflies is a delightful smocking design featuring bullion butterflies!
This design requires knowledge of the bullion stitch.
Lindsay Kay is a beautiful smocking plate that lends itself well to a bishop, bonnet or smocked yoke. It features lots of bullion roses all along the lower edge of the geometrics! Knowledge of the bullion stitch is recommended.
Lovely Little Ladybugs is another delightful smocking design featuring bullion ladybugs following a vine with lazy-daisy leaves. This design lends itself well to both a bishop and straight yoke. Knowledge of the bullion stitch is recommended.
Precious Rosebuds is a pretty little design that is perfect for a sweet baby bonnet or for just a few rows of smocking on a waistline or smocked yoke dress. The entire design is easy enough for the beginner smocker! The flowerettes can also be made as bullion roses if desired, tho instructions for the bullions are not shown.

A Little Russian Prince & Princess & how you can help our friends in the South!

A Little Russian Prince and Princess!

Clapping hands.....
...dancing feet and overflowing with JOY!
The pictures of these two precious children just make me smile every time I look at them, as well as every time I see them in person! I see two adorable children and a mom and dad whose cup runneth over, bubbling in happiness. I think about how all their lives have changed in such a remarkable way. It never ceases to blow me away! You see, these two children are biological siblings, who lived in separate orphanages, or child homes in Russia. They never, ever had even met each other, until the glorious day they all became a forever family! It's an incredible story of adoption that not only brings joy to the Hunter family, but it reached the National News and brought joy to others!  Their adoption story has touched many lives and it continues to touch lives, as other families seek adoption and are encouraged by reading other adoption story. You can read their beautiful story HERE.
The little Russian Prince and Princess stole my heart even before I saw pictures of them! As an adoption shower was planned at church, I began to think about what to make for two children who never had anything of their very own. They never had a Mom and Dad who tended to their every need. They didn't have family and friends who showered them with gifts at their birth. They didn't have grandparents, aunts, uncles & cousins who proudly showed them off to friends and even strangers. It was now time to start giving these children a good dose of what they never had. It was time for a Mom, Dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends to shower them with LVE!
I really wanted to make something special, because they deserved "special". I began with a long journey of finding just the right fabric to make a special dress for a special little princess! You can't even imagine my excitement when I found some fabric with Russian Matryoshka, or Russian Nesting Dolls, on it!!! I didn't even care that I had to send away to Japan to get it! :)
Is this not the cutest fabric?!
Brer Rabbit wishes he could get his paws
on a whole bolt of it!
This original smocking plate with two different views,
will be available soon from Brer Rabbit Designs!
Once the dress was made, I was inspired to create a pattern that I named after the little Russian Prince and Princess!
"Bennett & Celia's Cardigans"

Celia's Cardigan includes the
Matryoshka Nesting Doll applique!
the back of the cardigan has adorable inverted pleats!
Bennett's Cardigan is modeled after a classic Barn Jacket. With featherweight brown corduroy on the collar and patch pockets, and a plaid cotton lining, it makes the perfect Spring or Fall jacket for a boy!

Bennett & Celia's Cardigan is an ePattern available from Brer Rabbit Designs and can also be purchased at Fairytale Frocks and Lollipops! In fact, if you purchase this or any of my patterns from FF&L TODAY you can directly help our friends in the South who have been devestated by tornados!
Brer Rabbit appreciates anything you can do to help our friends in the South!

'lil britches' for easter!

Easter is past, but the garments we put so much work and time into will last forever....well, at least the pictures will! If you are a newsletter subscriber, then you were the first to see these darling girls in their Brer Rabbit Designs 'lil britches. Their mom, Kelly was a recent winner in a giveaway on this blog when the new pattern was released.

Aren't they darling?!

Kelly wrote me a very sweet note saying:

Laurie,

I made matching Easter egg hunting outfits for my two daughters using your 'lil britches pattern that I won in the giveaway.  I love them!  The pattern in one of my new favorites.  Thanks so much!  I'm sending pictures, but their action shots during the egg hunt. There was no time to pose, they were on a mission! :)
Kelly

Thank you Kelly, for sharing the pictures of

your darling girls in their 'lil britches!

And thanks too for allowing me to share them!

This is the pattern for 'lil britches and it's one of Brer Rabbit's best selling ePatterns! You can purchase it HERE or from Fairytale Frocks and Lollipops! Baby Bunny Feet

Sleeping babies are just tooo sweet! This is my precious grandson, who was born last October. I bought this little doll bed and made the baby bunny slippers just for this photograph! It couldn't have turned out cuter!
These sweet bunny slippers were made with white polar fleece
on the outside and baby blue gingham on the inside.
If you are a long-time follower of mine, you will remember my original bunny slippers design, which was featured, along with all my in-the-hoop baby booties in Sew Beautiful Magazine, several years ago.

The original design was created using plush felt.
The face is a vintage bunny face embroidered
in-the-hoop with the booties!
Recently, Brer Rabbit has been working on making new baby bootie designs and he's designed a new pair of bunny slippers with a touch of Shabby Chic!

I used ivory chenille on the outside and Lecien-
The floral fabric was purchased from Fairytale Frocks & Lollipops!

The back side of the slippers folds down
revealing the beauty of inside floral print!
This design, along with a few more will be available soon at Brer Rabbit Designs. I have to make another pair and take step-by-step pictures so that I can create a pdf-instruction file to go along with the embroidery file. I will try hard to get that accomplished A.S.A.P. I hope you like them - please leave a comment! Also, be sure to sign up for my weekly newsletter so that you can be the first to know when new designs are available for purchase!
